Named after Giovanni Gaspari, mineral collector of Crodo, Italy, who first found the mineral, and for its dominant cerium content. Gasparite (Ce) is associated with rutile, anatase, magnesite, hematite, synchysite-(Ce), chernovite, and cafarsite in fissures mineralized during Alpine amphibolite-grade metamorphism of metasedimentary rocks in Pizzo Cervandone, a mountain near the border between Italy and Switzerland.
