Clevelandite is a clear gem variety of Albite. It is named after Parker Cleaveland, a professor of geology and mineralogy at Bowdoin College in Maine during the early 1800s.
The mineral belongs to the Feldspar Silicate class and is the end member of the Plagioclase Series. Albite is the last of the feldspars to crystallise from molten magma. Since the process of crystallisation usually concentrates certain rare elements, Albite is usually found associated with rare and beautiful accessory minerals. Chemical Formula: NaAlSi3O8 Location: Pederneira Mine, São José da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. |
