Carnelian, sometimes spelled cornelian, is a red or reddish-brown variant of chalcedony. The word is derived from the Latin word meaning horn, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited.Originally found in the deserts of Arabia and Egypt, it has also been found in the Rio Grande area, India, China, Colombia, Saxony, Scotland, West Germany, and the USA.
The name "pietra paesina" means "landscape rock" since after it has been sawn and levigated, it shows incredible colors and landascapes that are quite often different from eye to eye since everyone sees what he wants to see.
